One of my favorite moments in
the atelier
happens before any decisions
are made.
Before the meetings. Before the emails.
Before the first conversation of the day.
The room is quiet and the rugs
are left alone with the light.
That is when I often notice something new.
A texture I hadn’t seen before.
A detail hidden in shadow.
A silk accent catching the
afternoon sun.
Even after months of working on
a design, a rug can still surprise
me.
Light reveal things a sample
never can.
A raised line becomes a
shadow.
A surface that looked quiet in
the morning suddently
becomes dimensional by
afternoon.
This is why we never judge a
rug from a photograph alone.
The most iportant part of a
rug is often what happens
when the room begins to live
around it.
